Our Communication

The education of our young people is a partnership between school and home. We encourage the closest possible communication between parents or caregivers and our school. We appreciate being informed of problems at home that may affect the student’s learning or behaviour at school. Likewise, we will contact you when appropriate.

Reports

Early in the term we hold Meet & Greet Evenings beginning with a Year 7-8 BBQ for family to mix and mingle and informally meet with teachers. This is then followed up with information sharing in the Library.

A second evening follows for parents/caregivers of Year 9 & 10 students and a third evening just for information sharing and NCEA information for parents/caregivers of Year 11-13 students. Dates and times for these evenings are emailed/posted early in the term.

Near the end of Term 1 we hold a 3-Way Conference for all students. On this day, school is not open for regular instruction and students come in with parents/caregivers for their scheduled conferencing time. Information is sent home prior to the date with details of our online booking system.

At the end of Term 2, Senior Students in Years 11-13 will receive a full Subject Report. Year 7-8 students will receive a midyear National Standards Snapshot Report.
Near the start of Term 3, we have a second round of 3 Way Conferencing for all students. It is essential all students and families attend to ensure strong home-school communication, and parents/caregivers are fully updated on their child’s learning progress and goals.

NCEA Exams occur mid/late in Term 3 for all Year 11-13 students. These are very important as they provide valuable information for students/teachers and parents/caregivers around learning preparedness for External Exams and identify next steps and essential revision focuses. Feedback from exams for students and parents will be posted by teachers on the Kamar Portal. At the end of Term 3, our subject choice timeline starts to kick into action and we hold an Information Evening/Careers Expo with an opportunity to talk to teachers/course counsellors for Year 9-10 students and their families.  As part of this, we also run scheduled parent-teacher interviews for Year 9-13 students.

Early to mid-Term 4, you can expect a Full Junior Subject Report for Year 7-10 students, including National Standards reports.

Year 9-10 students will have Subject Exams around week 3-4 of the term. Feedback and feedforward around these will be posted on the Kamar Portal by teachers for students and caregivers to view.

NCEA Exams for the seniors Year 11-13 begin mid-term. More information is located here: Curriculum/Assessment at WHS.
